A sunny courtyard

A south-facing courtyard with bespoke timberwork

In a small urban courtyard in central Oxford the design revolves around a large raised tank in Cor-ten steel, surrounded by vibrant matrix planting of perennials and grasses in dramatic coppery and purple colours.

The small balcony has been extended and fitted with a new powder-coated metal handrail screened with toughened glass, and now overlooks a decked walkway, high-panel pleached hornbeams and a small gravel terrace with space for a cafe table, submerged in the planting.  The pleached trees screen an ugly outlook and bring the garden up to the first floor level which houses the main living accommodation.

The garden is filled with large bold shapes, simply arranged, and the details of the woodwork are carefully planned and executed.
