An urban garden for sun and shade

An urban garden to draw the eye

Budget: £17,000

In this traditionally long and thin plot the space has been re-allocated to allow for best use of the limited sunshine.  The garden areas are defined by raised beds in oak, with a pergola along the garage and a gravelled seating area drawing the eye from an unattractive building which has come to dominate the outlook.  Planting will be a mixture of shade- and sun-loving plants which will be placed appropriately in the garden.  The horizontal fencing finish also helps to distract the eye, and will make a subtly coloured screen against which the shadows of tall perennials will be thrown in the late afternoon.

Status: Awaiting planting, March 2012
