Process

The design process is broken down as follows:

A meeting to view and discuss my portfolio is free of charge for those living within Oxfordshire - no design advice is offered at this stage, but as a potential client you get to meet me and decide whether I am the right designer for your proposed project.  Travel expenses are charged for travel to locations beyond Oxfordshire.  This meeting will typically last 30-45 minutes.

Consultation

You may well have already decided that you wish us to design your garden, or perhaps will do so at or after this first meeting.

The next stage is a more detailed consultation which identifies your needs, the potential of the site and any obvious limitations.  The client brief, including the budget, is discussed.  To avoid unnecessary expense at a later stage it is important that this brief is as comprehensive as possible.  Photographs are taken and a rough sketch of the site made.

The feasibility of various design options are then assessed and the concept and overall theme of the design is presented as a written report, along with projected costs for the design and a fee proposal for our services.

A consultation meeting may last an hour or more, and can be part of the initial visit if you are keen to proceed with us.  A charge is made for this meeting, but this is deducted from the full design fee if you accept our proposal.

Full design proposal

Once you have accepted our proposal for designing your site, the process is as follows:

The site is surveyed and we develop the concept, producing a design  and presenting it through sketch plans, perspective drawings, computer modelling and mood boards.

When the design is agreed the focus switches to  technical aspects of the project - setting out plans, construction detailing and other documentation required by contractors to prepare competitive tenders.  A full specification of materials and construction methods is drawn up.

Finally we produce a planting design which includes a planting overview, individual bed plans where necessary and a plant schedule with quantities and sizes specified.
